Goodbye, front windscreen tint!

Our Forte's windscreens are tinted with Ecotint Ray Barrier at RM2k. We were informed that the tint is JPJ-compliant and that it cools down the car in the afternoon heat with greater efficiency compared to many sub-standard tints that go for much lower prices in the market. It looked good and worked great too... until it was torn off, that is.

Apparently, the authorities weren't taken with Ecotint's claims- and even after we showed them the receipt, warranty card, etc; it was decided that the front windscreen's tint was not JPJ-compliant. Calls to the Company revealed that the Company was adamant that it was JPJ-compliant and if it was ordered to be torn off by the authorities, they would re-tint it back for us FOC, provided that we could show them the black and white proof from the authorities.

So now, the front windscreen is in patches of tint and torn tint, which looks quite bad. Sigh, we would either have to drive all the way to USJ to replace the tint or shop elsewhere... Sometimes, we consumers are caught right smack in the middle of the the grey areas- whom exactly is at fault here- Ecotint or JPJ? One of them has cocked up, that's for sure- and we'll see if Ecotint honours the tint replacement when I drive over for the replacement. I'll also be asking them about the JPJ-compliance and seek some kind of written black and white too.

If you are interested in Ecotint's Ray Barrier too, watch this space and see if our Forte manages to rectify its dignity or would we face further bureaucratic run-arounds when we deal with the Company and the authorities?

In the meantime, stay safe and cross your fingers the next time you slow down for a tint check by the authorities. Or you could opt for the "designer" tints below, from our more advanced neighbours over the border= although I dare say with some certainties that these tints would most likely get you the boot!

  1. Ouch, that must have hurt! Do update us if the tint company replaces the tint for you! I use V-Cool at the same price and no trouble so far, even when I sold my car off. Good luck there!
